The Last King of Scotland

Posted on: June 30, 2007

Based on a true story. Set in the 70’s.

I like movies that are based on or inspired by a true story because you get an idea about what happened to certain people at certain places in a particular time period. This movie is about Uganda’s President, General Idi Amin and how one young Scottish doctor met and interacted with him, believing that Amin would do what he said about building a strong, independent nation.  I don’t want to say anything more about the movie except that Forest Whitaker did a good job in the role of Amin as did James McAvoy as the Scottish doctor Garrigan.

Something from one of the characters in the movie:

Tell the world about Amin. They will believe you. You are white.
~ Dr. Thomas Junju (played by David Oyelowo) to Dr. Nicholas Garrigan

Now isn’t that a hard truth sometimes, even today?
